Jesse is a 2014 graduate West Coast College of Massage Therapy’s 3000/hour Registered Massage Therapy program in Victoria BC. She is very excited to have recently returned to the Comox Valley after spending the last nine years in Victoria.

Jesse’s interest in becoming an RMT started as a young athlete from her keen interest in the complex workings of the human body and later with her desire to have a career that would have a positive impact in the lives of others. Jesse believes Massage Therapy is a very effective tool that can be used to help reduce pain and stress as well as restore and maintain mobility so her clients can participate fully in the activities they love.

Jesse believes that the Nervous system holds the key to breaking the pain tension cycle and allowing the body to heal. She aims to maintain a balance between mechanical and relaxing massage techniques in her treatments. Techniques she may incorporate in her treatments are Swedish Massage, CranioSacral, Isolytic Release, Muscle Energy Technique, Myofascial Release, Trigger Point Pressure Release and Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation. Techniques are selected based on the client’s symptoms, tissue presentation and how the client responds to specific techniques.

She strives to achieve the best results for her clients by carefully adapting techniques and a treatment plan to best suite her client’s individual needs. In order to help prevent further injury she focuses on Identifying the root of the problem and educating her clients with corrective measures such as postural education, proper work place biomechanics and stretching and/or strengthening exercises.

Since I graduated and became an RMT in 1994 I have learned the most important aspect of my job is to help people identify, and correct or manage the patterns that promote pain or discomfort and limit range of motion. These types of chronic symptoms can often decrease day to day quality of life, can cause poor sleep (which is essential for healing and recovery) and keeps us from participating fully in the activities that feed our soul and bring joy and wellness.

Over the years my therapy style has evolved to incorporate the best of classic Swedish relaxation techniques (effleurage, kneading) with clinical treatment applications (trigger point therapy, muscle stripping) which I have found to be extremely effective in treating conditions such as headaches, chronic back, neck and shoulder pain, sports injuries, as well as physical or life stress issues.

I look forward to helping you rehabilitate, alleviate and rejuvenate.

Melanie is passionate about helping her patients feel a sense of ease, comfort and rejuvenation in the body and mind. Through acupuncture and massage, her goal is to support the body’s innate healing capacity. She believes that harmony between our physical, mental/emotional and spiritual selves is pivotal towards holistic health. Melanie has personally experienced, and has worked with many clients who have expressed dis~ease (ie. chronic low back pain, migraines, menstrual difficulties, digestive discomfort, etc) when one of these aspects is out of alignment.

She aims to facilitate systemic balancing with the aid of acupuncture, cupping, massage, diet therapy and rehabilitative exercises. By addressing the underlying causes of disease (not just an isolated set of symptoms), Melanie takes an individualistic ‘whole-person’ approach to healing. This helps in both prevention and management of symptoms, and allows you feel the changes within your system.

Through acupuncture, Melanie guides ‘qi’ to replenish energy, clear stagnation, reduce pain and gain optimal function. Through massage, her aim is to create embodiment and a sense of being held, so that your intelligent nervous system can unwind and resource. Creating a safe container where you are involved in the treatment plan and process is important to her, as is patient education and functional awareness. Melanie wants you to feel empowered and included in your healing journey.

Along with being an RMT and R.Ac, she practices Somatics, Yoga and Qi Gong. She is an avid adventurer and lover of movement. You will find her in the mountains hiking and snowboarding, at sea surfing, enjoying river swims, or at home gardening, cooking, reading, dancing & singing.

Melanie is a believer that we all deserve to feel at home in our bodies and in our lives. ‘Coming home’ to yourself can create a sense of wellbeing and awareness that contributes to leading an aligned, peaceful life. This is an ongoing process through life’s twists and turns, and she is here to support you on your journey of wellbeing.

Melanie is grateful to continue to explore and share the ancient art/science of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which allows us to further understand the mind-body-spirit connection.
